Guy CAMPBELL from Rochester along with Echuca's Kristian HEIGHT and Brad MURRAY are currently up in Canberra to represent the Big White V in the V.C.F.L's No. 1 team for the 2010 Landmark Australian Country Football Carnival. The team is coached by former A.F.L. Coach and Hawthorn champion Peter KNIGHTS who will be going all out to wrest the title away from the A.C.T. who won the carnival last played at Deakin Reserve two years ago. That will take some doing as the Canberra team then was very, very impressive and we thought then that they jelled very well as it seemed they all knew each other pretty well. The Shepparton Swans' Tim LOOBY has been named as an Emergency for the squad and you could have backed it in that Kyabram's Paul NEWMAN would have been in the team for sure (& possibly captain) had he made himself available. Paul was very keen to play but knew that the format would have taken too much out of him and probably jeporadise his fitness for the remainder of our season. The Vic. No. 1 team's draw is as follows :-
Thursday 22nd July, 10am at Manuka Oval - v South Australia;
Thursday 22nd July, 1:15pm at Queanbeyan v the A.C.T.;
Thursday 22nd July, 3:30pm at Queanbeyan v Vic 2.
Friday 23rd July, 10:15am at Ainslie v New South Wales;
Friday 23rd July, 11:30am at Ainslie v Queensland and
Friday 23rd July, 1:30pm at Ainslie v Western Australia.
Each team will play all other teams over the first two days of the Carnival - all matches will be 2 x 17 minute halves with no time on. There will be a rest day on Saturday 24th July. The finals will be played on Sunday 25th July between the top 4 ranked teams which will be full length fixtures. Teams ranked 5 - 7 will play a round to determine final standings.
Congratulations to our boys Guy, Kristian and Brad for making the team and lets hope they can bring home the bacon.
Interesting to note that former Shepparton United player Daniel GODSMARK who has been out at Undera in the Kyabram District League is again representing the Vic 2 team. Also of interest is Stephen DANIELS who coached Seymour to the '06 and 2007 flags (and is coaching Congupna in the Murray Football League) is the head coach of the Queensland team and will be assisted by former Shepparton player Peter CARDAMONE who too is out at Congupna.
