Mount Gambier’s 2010 S.A. Country Under 16 Representatives

Under 16 Boys

Six of Mount Gambier’s best junior Basketballers had the enjoyed honour of representing SA Country in the 2010 Australian Junior Championships played in Logan, Queensland in early July.

Matthew Parslow and Matthew Markiewicz were members of the Under 16 Boys team while Emily Stafford, Sam Loughhead, Georgia Green and Brianna Walters along with Head Coach Trevor Semmens, were in the Girls’ team.

Both teams faced tough assignments in the week long championships and made pleasing progress as the competitions unfolded.

Both teams finished fifth in their respective pools and then went on to gain a ninth ranking in the 14 team championships.

This creditable ranking resulted from impressive wins in their games on grand final day.

The SA Country Boys defeated a strong Country Victoria side, 71-64. Matt Parslow

 was one of the top scorers for SA Country with 10 points.

The SA Country Girls showed the dramatic improvement they had made over the week by turning around their 13 point loss to Queensland North in their first game to a 3 win in their final ranking game. Final scores were 68-65 in which Stafford scored 18 points, Loughhead 13, Walters 7 and Green 6.

The 2010 titles were won by the Vic Metro girls and, in an upset one pointer win, NSW Metro defeated Vic Metro. SA Metro Boys won a bronze medal while the SA Metro girls finished 8th.
