Academy manger Luke Curran kicked off the night by giving everyone in attendance an insight into the set up and background of the Academy which has changed in previous years with the inclusion of zoning and the Gold Coast Academy.
While Luke was giving everyone an insight into the program Nathan ventured off with the U16 Coolaroo squad taking them through some warm up activities used by the Lions Academy Coaches.
Former 2000-2001 Brisbane Lion Nathan Clarke then took control of the session by going through some basic warm up activities and some kicking technique drills with a focus on balance within technique.
Following this was a handball technique session and goal kicking routine session that all the Coolaroo players gained a huge amount from. There was genuine focus with Nathan’s session on working on the aspects within the game that need occur most.
From there all coaches moved into the Ballymore room at Gold Park where Luke touched on some practices that all coaches should be looking to conduct in preparation for games and training. And to wrap the night up Robert Cheek conducted an information session on biomagnetic water and its benefits to athletes.
All in all the night was very well received by all and something that the league and the Academy members are looking to make a regular event.
A big thank you to Luke and Nathan for conducting such an informative session and also thank you to U16 coach Sean Hamilton and his U16 players for allowing us to use them as the training participants for the session.
