The lead changed hands several times during the frantic last term, the Bearcats up 66–65 with 53 seconds left to play after a Trudy Holland basket. South’s Claire Johnson who was the game high scorer converted with 6 seconds left - Panthers up by a solitary point 67–66. On the buzzer West’s Meg McLeod took a 2 point shot to win the game but the shot missed and the rebound was hauled in by South’s Ursula Richards keeping the Bearcats at bay. Woodville started well and led at the end of the 1st quarter 15–13. The Flames set up the win with a good second and third period where they outscored Woodville 47–29. At the conclusion of the match, a telling statistic was Norwood’s strength inside when they scored 36 points from inside the keyway whereas the Warriors could only manage 12. Breeanna Gleeson played her 1st match of the season for the Flames.

Sturt Sabres v Eastern Mavericks, Sat, June 26th, 6.30pm at Pasadena
Sturt 64 (Monique Bowley 20, Caroline Burgess 16, Bree Farley 14) defeated
Eastern 56 (Tess Madgen 20, Jamie Fricker 10, Danni Clayton 8)

The big guns for the Sabres on Saturday night were the major difference between the two sides with Sturt centre Monique Bowley and guards Caroline Burgess and Bree Farley able to score when Sturt needed the baskets most. At one point in the second quarter in a low scoring game the visitors established an 8 point buffer when they led 24–16. From that point of the game, Sturt closed the margin then set up the lead by three quarter time 50–44, Burgess scoring 12 points including two 3 pointers to wrest back the advantage for the home side. In the last quarter, Eastern were outscored 14-12, Sturt hitting the majority of their baskets in the early part of the period. Eastern made a run in the last but they never looked capable of bridging the gap.

Forestville Eagles v Southern Tigers, Sat, June 19th, 6.30pm at Wayville
Forestville 74 ( Mia Newley 27, Jess Fergus, Alex Duncan, Megan Kermond 11, Jamie- Lee Bow 10) defeated Southern 54 (Madelaine Cunningham 19, Ashleigh Spencer 7)

Forestville broke the game open from outside the arc when they hit eleven 3 pointers from 25 shots taken to help create the winning margin of 20 points. Southern had an off shooting night from downtown when they came up empty handed from the seven 3 point shots taken. The Eagles jumped out of the blocks scoring 23–13 in the first period and they also dominated the last quarter 19-9. Mia Newley found her shooting touch this week finishing the game high scorer and hitting three 3s after her ‘shooting yips’ of last round. The Eagles finished with 5 players in double figures, all of whom hit 3s. Southern won the rebound count 40–38 but would be concerned with the team’s ball movement when they only registered 3 assists for the game - a season low.
