The session was implemented as a way for the Crows to give back to the Pittsworth juniors who have braved the cold and been great supporters of the Toowoomba Crows this season making the journey into Rockville Park on many occassions to watch the Crows home games and cheer on their role models.
Current players Jacob Rose, Tim Hiscock and Kyle Smith (2010 co. captain) along with 2009 premiership captain and 2010 assistant coach Stephen Harbort conducted the coaching session. Tim kicked off proceedings with a kicking technique drill using tennis balls which the Crows have used in preperation for their games at times this year.
From there Stephen Harbort took over with a great handball drill that encourages communication within in the group and quickness of hands. The young Pittsworth players took a while to pick this drill up but once they worked it out it was great to see how quickly they were learning and adapting.
Jacob Rose was the next presenter for the evening and focused his skill component in conjuction with his background in Rugby league by conducting a tackling technique drill which included the blind turn, one of the most underated skills that is rarely coached at junior level.
The final session for the day was conducted by 2010 Crows captain Kyle Smith who ran a game phase drill where foot and hand skills and target hitting were the main focus.
All players and coaches had a great time during the 90 minute session and the Pittsworth players should be commended on their behaviour and attitude for the session. Also a big thank you to Jacob, Tim, Kyle and Stephen for conducting such an informing an professional training session, well done lads and thank you to Sharyn Carnahan for inviting the Crows to participate.
Note: There is only 1 home game left for the Crows this year which will be played on Sunday 11th July at Rockville Park against competition front runners and great supporters of Darling Downs football in the Western Magpies. It would be great to see the Darling Downs community get behind the team that has acheived so much this year by making the division 1 competition.
