In
2002, Michelle Daley, a Balmain player, suffered a serious injury
during a match between Balmain and Wests. Subsequently Michelle
underwent two liver transplants. In 2003, Balmain and Wests played a
charity match to raise funds for the RPA transplant unit. This is now an
annual SWAFL event. This
Saturday Balmain and Wests will be playing for the Michelle Daley
Shield and you and your team members are invited to help raise funds for
the Royal Prince Alfred hospital transplant unit. Wests have won the
shield at the last two meetings, but the Dockers will be keen to get
their name on the shield as they last won the match in the 2007
preseason as the Tigers.
There
are several ways your team can contribute:
1.
Come down to Mahoney Park, buy a ticket (or several) in the monster
raffle and enjoy the BBQ - all proceeds go to the RPA. The raffle will
be drawn at 3pm.
2.
Have your team members donate a gold coin at your match and bring any
donations along to the SWAFL meeting Sunday ( If you are not scheduled
at Mahoney on Saturday)
3.
If you are playing at Mahoney, you can help sell a book of raffle tix
to your team mates. Spare books will be available from the canteen.
Last
year SWAFL raised almost $1000 and we'd love to do it again. Please
help by doing something with your team.
Cheers
