From last Sunday the questions were ? How good were Ky? How bad was Mooroopna? The Bombers were superb kicking 7, 8, 6 and 7 goals per quarter to the Cats 3, 2, 2 & 4. 105 points, that is a thumping. Surely Mooroopna cannot be that bad? Ky. certainly seem to have the wood on them with Paul NEWMAN and Kayne PETTIFER both kicking 5 and Bushranger champion in the making Jake REEVES and the evergreen Heath BARNETT both kicking 4. Big Jake's Bushie team-mate Liam OGDEN also relished his return home and was named in the Bombers best. Echuca have not made things any better for the Shepparton Bears who only managed to kick 5 goals 4 for the day up against the Murray Bombers 26 goals 15. Another thumping - the Bombers were certainly up and about last week-end! Joel PERRY kicked 7 and was named in Echuca's best along with Kristian HEIGHT, Matt POLLOCK and Chris EGAN. Another blow out at Princess Park in Shepparton where the Shepparton Swans kicked 31 goals 18 to the Benalla Saints 9 goals 11. The eldest YZE lad Damien kicked 12, Robbo kicked 8. Tim LOOBY played another terrific game to keep Ricky SYMES down to just one goal. Shepp United also had a big 77 point win over the gutsy Euroa Magpies at Deakin Reserve. Sam DAWES filled in up forward for Jason EAGLE and he too could have kicked 12 but managed 6.6 instead. Matt DAVIES is back in town with 4 goals and a 4 quarter terrific game. Magpie youngsters Marcus VARLEY and Klay GIOVANNINI played well as did veteren Fred CAMERON. It was a bit closer down at Seymour with the Lions defeating the Mansfield Eagles by 16 points after being in front all day. Paul COLBERT kicked 7 and was arguably best on the ground. The Eagles David MENSCH, Brett MAHONEY and Nick GIESCHEN were named their best. The Tigers from Rochester defeated the Bulldogs from Tatura by 7 goals after trailing by a goal at 1/4 time. Perry OLIVER kicked 5 for the Tiges, Dean MOON and Dylan CUTTRISS both bagged 3. Cam TREWIN kicked 4 for the Bulldogs, Ben COSGRIFF was named Tat's best player.
All games this week-end are being played on the Saturday. The winners are underlined & in bold - OK? At Deakin Reserve Shepparton host Mooroopna who will be out to rid themselves of their performance from 6 days previous. It will be interesting to see how the Bears perform after the big loss to Echuca. Echuca are enjoying two games at home on the trot and you could probably name your own odds for Euroa in knocking over the Murray Bombers. There is a real fear that the Magpie Magoo's might be in a bit of bubble 'n strife for numbers - lets hope they can get the players and all teams play to the true Magpie spirit. Kyabram at home to Seymour - Nathan BECK will probably go to one of the COLBERT brothers and this will be a clash to enjoy as a spectator as young Nathan is in really top form and the COLBERT boys are among the best players in the League. The tip is for the Bombers but not by a lot as the Lions certainly have pride! The Shepparton Swans travel up to Mansfield and perhaps big Jarrod SUTHERLAND might enjoy the smaller ground but the belief is that the Eagles play at their very best at home and will be smarting from last week's loss against Seymour. This game could probably get Match of the Round honours - there is a fair few ifs in this game - if Mansfield can keep Adem YZE, Luke JARJOURA, Tommy PREECE, Nathan BROWN, Damien YZE and Robbo quiet then they should win. If all of the Eagles are on song and play to their abilities they should win. Mansfield is the tip but not with any great confidence. Rochester really should account for Benalla - the Under 18's could be a great game with the Tigers undefeated so far and the Benalla kids sitting 3rd on the ladder with 6 wins / 3 losses. In the main game, the Tigers overall strength gives them an emphatic nod. Tatura should go into their game against Shepparton United with confidence knowing they can turn it on at home, it was only two weeks ago when the Bulldogs played so very well to defeat the Swans. The Bulldogs will be bolstered by the return of Tommy DURWARD but it is doubted they will be able to kick a big enough score to get over the Demons whose defence so far this year has been fantastic. Great to see the Demons Sean TENACE returning back to the Seniors last week after a long time off recovering from ankle operations - Sean is a very clean defender, the run last week will do him the world of good. The Demons defence really is something to look at - they have conceded the least amount of score of all the twelve teams, they have had 104 goals kicked against them in the 9 games thus far - their nearest rival in the mean stakes is Kyabram who have had 119 goals kicked against them. The Bulldogs have had 168 goals kicked against them so statistically the Demons should win by 9 goals. We'll see?
