THE Central Highlands Football League could accommodate six new clubs, the league's chief administrator says, but how a 20-team competition might look remains up in the air.
CHFL manager Diane Ryan yesterday confirmed the league and its 14 existing clubs had been in discussions with the VCFL about absorbing the rump of the LPFL but had not made any decisions on how that could be implemented.
"The Central Highlands Football League is very much in a holding pattern," CHFL manager Diane Ryan.
"Detailed discussion hasn't occurred yet. All the clubs and the CHFL have had meetings with VCFL, and the clubs have been happy with the discussion to date.
"From our point of view, we are just going to sit back and wait. This was not something the league actively pursued."
Ryan said the league had proven capable of adapting to change when it accepted Daylesford into the competition in 2006.
However, she said the league could not make any decision on whether a two-division competition - with or without promotion and relegation - would be adopted until the VCFL issued its recommendations on the future of footy
in the region.
"Whether it's two divisions or a one division competition, that discussion hasn't occurred," she said. "Our clubs have been happy with the current structure but, based on the numbers being spoken of, it might work as one division
with everyone playing each other once, or two divisions."
