With AFL over 150 years old, the sport just keeps growing and in 2010 school students in South Western Queensland will have the opportunity to participate and experience in the excitement of Australian Rules Football, as AFL Queensland look to take the AFL Road Show to several South Western Queensland country towns & schools.
With the Road Show planned to hit the road from Monday 14th and conclude on Saturday 19th June, the Road Show will visit local schools in Roma, Chinchilla, St George and Charleville; giving students of these remote areas the chance to experience and play AFL, while having fun. Over the weeklong tour, AFL Queensland will conduct meetings and seminars to teachers, parents, footy enthusiasts and anyone interested in hearing about Australian Rules football.
The man behind all of the planning and organising is Toowoomba based, AFL Queensland Development Officer Jeff Neumann.
“With AFL becoming a powerhouse sport in Queensland, it’s important to spread the game to these areas. The tour is not just to promote the brand AFL, but to establish a base to kick start AFL in South Western Queensland,” Neumann said.
“We have also had a fair bit of interested from the areas, the local schools and organisations are really getting behind the tour and want to see AFL kick off in the local area.” Jeff Neumann confirmed.
The AFL Road Show will be visiting Chinchilla on Tuesday and Wednesday, Roma on Thursday and will be hitting St George on Friday with the Charleville leg yet to be confirmed but will fit into the week.
AFL has over 100,000 participants playing Aussie Rules across Queensland and fast becoming the most popular sport throughout the state.
