Congratulations to young GVFL guns Jake LORRAINE from the Seymour club and Tommy DURWARD from Tatura. Both lads have just recently been selected in the initial VCFL Under 19 Squad that will be whittled down for our representative team to play the Victorian Amateurs Under 19 team on Sunday week, June 13th in Melbourne. This game will be a curtain raiser to the open age Victorian Amateurs v a representative team from the A.F.L. competition based in Sydney. The final training run is to be held on Sunday June 6th & lets hope that both Jake and Tom will be in the team. Both should be, no doubt about that as both were strong performers in the victorious SENIOR G.V.F.L. team that defeated the powerful Ovens & Murray League up in Lavington last Saturday week ago. Good luck to Jake and Tom. Finley Senior Coach Damien SEXTON will again Coach the VCFL Under 19 side having been at the helm in 2009 when our boys defeated the Amateurs by 46 points. Damien has had a fantastic career possibly highlighted by 4 senior games with St Kilda in 1990 but it has been in the Ovens and Murray, Goulburn Valley, Picola and Murray Leagues where he has really excelled. Damien had a year with Shepparton United but was burning the candle at both ends running a couple of farms and driving grain trucks all through the Riverina and the Goulburn and Murray Valley's and playing footy. An absoulte marvellous career and a champion bloke who played 375 games of Senior footy and played in a few premierships and has won an outstanding 12 club Best & Fairest trophies. He has been an Interleague representative and Interleague Coach on no less than 38 occasions.
Well done to both Jake and Tommy - we wish you both all the best - we hope you make the team as we know you will do the GVFL and the VCFL proud!
