The U14 South Carnival was held at the Glasshouse AFC on the Sunshine Coast 2 weeks ago with a round robin format against teams from Bundaberg Wide Bay, The Sunshine Coast and for the first time a side from the Northern Rivers.
While The Darling Downs team did not win a game they certainly improved with every match played and all players learnt a great deal from the experience which is the main reason why our players represent their region.
Well done to all players and the coaching staff in Shaun Reardon, Wayne Waltisbuhl, Kyle Smith and Sharyn Carnahan who all did a great with their respective roles.
On the flip side of the on field results the U15 Darling Downs squad won the division 2 title for the first time since 2003 last week in Bundaberg. The squad won all games excluding their last against Northern to become Division 2 Champions and in doing so had 2 players named in the State squad of 30 players.
Josh Stahlhut was rewarded with selection in the first 25 players of the State Squad and becomes the first Darling Downs player to make a State U15 team since Dan Farr way back in 2003. Mathew Joseph was also named as a shadow for the State Squad as has the chance to train with the squad over the next 2 months and may even come into the final 25 playing group depending on injuries and illness.
This is a great result for Darling Downs football with 4 players making State Squads this year, more than we have had combined over the last 5 years.
Congratulations to all players on their achievements this year and well done to U15 Darling Downs Coach Lindsay Collison on his division 2 title.
Collison will once again be coaching the State U15 team this year that travel to Perth at the end of July for the National U15 Championships.
