Euroa were well in the game at half time but to lose two champs in Matt MILLS and Scott WATSON resulted in the Swans winning by 12 goals with Robbo bagging 8. In a rematch of last years Grand Final the Kyabram Bombers got something back with an 11 goal win over the Mansfield Eagles - Paul NEWMAN is back in town by kicking 9 and Heath BARNETT was terrific support in kicking 4. Seymour would be thrilled with no doubt their best win for the year by scoring a 32 point over Rochy - Paul COLBERT kicked 7 for the Lions and was named their best player. Next best winning margin was 9 points by the Benalla Saints over Shepparton and at Deakin Reserve which is significant. Well done to Tim SYMES and all involved over in the Rose City. Tatura have obviously given the Murray Bombers a huge scare up at Echuca - 3 goals down at 3/4 time and have kicked 3 goals 7 behinds in the last quarter to Echuca's 1 goal 4 - that is 10 scoring shots to 5 so it must have been exciting. Talk about exciting at Mooroopna! Demons skipper Tyson SIDEBOTTOM slotted the winning goal from the boundary line with only daylight between the big posts - United were down by 11 points with only a minute left on the clock & they have had that Never Say Die Demons attitude to knock over the Cats by a solitary point. Jason EAGLE kicked 9 goals 6 behinds and the truth is, at least 4 of those behinds could have been goals. Gee I hope he plays in the purple and gold up at Lavington next week-end!
In the ladders, Mooroopna, United & Echuca have each had 4 wins and one loss - in the Reserves both Kyabram and Mooroopna are thus far undefeated with 5 wins and in the Under 18's Rochester and Mansfield are also undefeated although Mansfiield only defeated Ky. by one point last Saturday over at Ky. Euroa and Tatura Reserves and Under 18's are yet to break the ice but they will soon - do not give up fella's - hang in there and a win will come soon.
This week - Round 6 and then next Saturday, 22nd May, we take on the Ovens & Murray in the Under 18's and the Seniors. Please make an effort to get up to Lavington - 2pm for the kids & 5pm for the Big Boys.
This week-end, same as last week-end, all games are played on Saturday. Tatura host Mooroopna - most pundits will tip the Cats but do no write off the Bulldogs - perhaps the Cats $1:80, the Bulldogs $4. Benalla are home to Echuca, the Saints will be cock-a-hoop over last weeks win but the Murray Bombers will be more on the job this week-end and are tipped to win. Mansfield host the Shepparton Bears and one would imagine the Eagles will be pretty determined after Ky. smacked their bums big time last week. Euroa v Kyabram at the Memorial Oval ? It seems Ky. are really starting to hit their straps and with doubts whether the Magpies will be able to field their best team, the Bombers get the nod and it could be a big margin. Shepparton United take on Seymour at Deakin Reserve - the Demons will have to be very mindful of the COLBERT Brothers, Jeff ANDERSON, Jake LORRAINS and Jason COLE and also keep in mind most of the other Lions. This could be the day that United seek and get other goal-kickers to assist the Big Bloke and being very impressed with the Demons endeavour last week v the Cats, United get the tip. Rochester will be dirty on losing to Seymour last week and on their own patch will be hell bent on defeating the Shepparton Swans who on Rochy's beautiful big ground could cause the Tiger's a few head-aches. With Adem YZE playing really well and drilling them into Robbo and elder brother "Knock Knock" plus the terrific form of youngsters Jesse FINNEN and Quade JOHNSTONE, plus reigning Morrison Medalist Brian DURBRIDGE always getting plenty of the Sherrin, the Swans are the tip but not with any great confidence as you can never, ever under estimate the Tigers.
Lets hope all our GV boys play well and are available for next week-end up at Lavington - we need to defeat the O & M. We need to do stuff to make us feel good! GO G.V!
