The Tigers & Demons joined the Cats last week-end to be the undefeated teams after the first 3 rounds of the year. Rochester whooped Echuca by 39 points at Echuca with big Perry OLIVER kicking 6 and being named the Tigers best player again. The Tigers kicked 8 goals 2 behinds to a solitary point in the last quarter after being 10 points down at 3/4 time - this is a sign of a team playing very well as a tight group under Coach Simon McCARTY. Shepp United had a big win over Shepparton in the Battle of Deakin winning by 13 goals by keeping Shepparton to an almost record low score of 2 goals 4 behinds. WOW! The Demons sponsor would be pretty happy with that. Jason EAGLE kicked another 8 to head the Goal Kicking ladder with a total of 25 majors - an average of 8.3333 goals per game. Not Bad! On Sunday down at Seymour the Lions powered away in the last quarter to defeat Euroa by 39 points. Congratulations to the host clubs last week-end for the Anzac ceremonies conducted - it was a terrific feeling to be at Seymour on a beautiful day on a beautiful oval for the service last Sunday. The Kings Park is probably in the best condition it has ever been in. Well done to those involved who have got it up to such an excellent state. This week-end we have a terrific round of games. We have 3 Saturday games, two Saturday night games and Tatura host Shepparton on Sunday. Remember, the afternoon/night games are to commence at 3pm - 5pm & the senior game at 7pm.
SaturDAY games :- Rochester host Mooroopna which promises to be a beauty & because of their last quarter against the Murray Bombers last week, and because it is on the Moon Oval and because Mooroopna have had a 14 day break after a reasonably soft game against the Swans, your tipster selects the Tigers to topple the Cats but not by much. Elliott BOWEN and Perry OLIVER within range of the big sticks and a question mark over Chris SCHIRMER but then again the Cats on-ballers are good but so too are Rochy's. Yeah; sticking with the Tiges. The Under 18 game should also be a beauty to set the day up because Rochy 3rds and up on top of the ladder with 3 wins and the Cats have only lost one game which was against the Swans a fortnight ago. Euroa host Mansfield - the Maggies were good for the first three quarters last week and will need to perform well into the last quarter to account for the Eagles who defeated Benalla a fortnight ago by 35 points when their young guns Brett MAHONEY and Adam BOSHEVSKI were in good form. James DALTON, Mattie SHARP and Sam HARRIS will have to be on song with their team-mates to knock over the Eagles but your tipster tips the Eagles. The Shepparton Swans were disappointing two weeks ago over at Mooroopna whereas Seymour showed last Sunday that they are starting to get their act together. The Swans have been in the news for all the wrong reasons since Good Friday and will be absolutley breaking their necks to get the 4 points against Seymour at Princess Park. Remember, the Swans kicked a higher score than Shepparton in Round One but have since had the 4 points taken from them by the G.V.F.L. Board as per Rule 5.5.3 (c) of the V.C.F.L. Rules under the heading of "Players Exceeding Permitted Number." With the COLBERT brothers in fine form and well supported by Jeff ANDERSON, this tall timber could worry the Swans but the Swans are the selection to win. Robbo with the Swans is averaging just over 5 goals a game.
SATURDAY Afternoon / Night games :- Shepparton United host Echuca at Deakin Reserve - both teams played the previous Saturday - the Demons are really playing well with ruckman Clint EDWARDS giving the on-ballers first use and giving power forward Jason EAGLE every opportunity to kick a bag. The Murray Bombers will be smarting from their last quarter big fade out last week and will be going all out to make amends. Andrew BRIGGS, Dylan BUTLER and Kade MERLO with Tom SHELDON and Matthew POLLOCK will need all their team-mates to be pretty much at their best to be able to knock off the Demons but it is thought United will have more winners over the ground than what Echuca will so the tip is United. Also under lights but this time at Benalla, the Saints host Kyabram. Benalla have been thereabouts and have two very good young ruckmen in Lachlan Van SCHAIK and Sam ALEXANDER and there has been a question mark over Ky's rucks so perhaps this could be the reason Benalla are tipped to win their first game for the year. On Sunday at the normal starting times of 10am, 11:50am & 2pm, Tatura host Shepparton in what should really be a very good game. Shepparton have not yet kicked more than their opponents so far this year so will be really going hell for leather to sing their club song at about 4:40pm. Tatura's solo win for the year was in Round One at Easter when they defeated Benalla by 9 points. Shepparton were very disappointing last week and it is thought the Bears will bounce back to overcome the Bulldogs.
In the meantime while out their driving through the mighty Goulburn Valley, take care - lets have you reading the news, not being the news. OK?
