Perhaps the surprise of Part 1 of Round 3 was the ease in which the Mooroopna Cats disposed of the Shepparton Swans - the Cats kicked 6.6 in the first quarter to 2 goals 3 but by half time Mooroopna were up by 10 goals 3 behinds and then kicked 7 goals one in the 3rd Quarter to the Swans 4 goals 4. Dead eye Dick Russell ROBERTSON was crooked eye Dick by missing set shots he really should have slotted to finish with 5 goals and just as many behinds for the day. The final score was :- Mooroopna 26.13 (169) to the Swans a very disappointing 10.16 (76). The game was umpired very well by Steve SNELSON and Glenn HAYES and was incident free. It was difficult to only name 6 from the Cats to appear in the Best Players as they had every player who contributed - it really was a terrific team effort. Chris SCHIRMER was very good for the Cats in kicking 3 goals as well as being down back and in the ruck. We will most definately be talking more about Mooroopna's A Grade recruits in GAY, SOUTER, PETAK, ROBERTS and HAYDOCK. The Benalla Saints were game up at Mansfield but did not have enough winners over the field to get the four points. The Eagles won 15.20 (110) to 11.9 (75) - Eagles fans got a scare when their big man David MENSCH copped a heavy hit to his forehead and eye region resulting in severe damage to the eye socket but thankfully he has been cleared of any nerve damage and should be back in a few weeks. Adam BOSCHEVSKI and Simon HART both kicked 3 - Brendan STEVENS and Matthew SHARP both kicked 3 for the Saints. Kyabram got away to a terrific start under the lights over at Ky against the Tatura Bulldogs. Former coach Mark ADAMSON was really on song and kicked 7 from very strong leads and marking. Recruit Simon SEDDON, Paul NEWMAN and Chris ATKINS each kicked 3 goals in their score of 23.17 (115) to Tatura 8.11 (59). Josh LINTON and Mark ADAMSON were named the Bombers best - Tommy DURWOOD and excellent all night for the Bulldogs as was Linc WELLINGTON.
We have two games on Saturday with real Anzac type rivals going at each other in Shepparton v Shepp United at Deakin Reserve and Echuca hosting Rochester. The wrap-up game for Round 3 is down at Seymour on ANZAC DAY, Sunday 25th April with games commencing at 1pm. At Deakin you would exepct the Demons to defeat the Shepparton Bears - United will be helped by Shaun HUY playing his first game against Kyabram and perhaps Shepp. being weakened a bit by the unavailability of Brett VALLENDER - United by 5 or 6 goals. Echuca having won a tough encounter against the Swans nearly a fortnight ago compared to the Tigers smashing Shepp by 11 goals on the same day, suggests to your tipsters that the green and whites will probably beat the yellow and blacks. (It is a great theme song the Tigers anthem is'nt it?) Down at Seymour in the game to be played to pay tribute to the sacrifice of the servicemen and women of Australia and to celebrate the Anzac Spirit of courage, sacrifice, endurance and mateship - your tipsters well remembers the terrific win by Euroa down at Kings Park last year - but that is last year. With the COLBERT brothers and the youngsters Jake LORRAIN and Jason COLE in good early season form, the Lions are the tip over the Maggies; however, the Magpies too have a good spread of youth and experience.
Please, on Anzac Day Sunday, please make an effort to be involved in a rememberence ceremony or if you can't, please take some time out to remember our Anzacs.
