The second round of the Speed Field Days Mallee Football League will provide some interesting games of football especially after last weeks opening round.
The match of the round will be between Jeparit Rainbow and Beulah and this clash will be played at Beulah. The Blues set the benchmark last week with a big win over an under-manned Hopetoun and they will be keen to stamp their mark on this year’s season.
Jeparit Rainbow had the bye last weekend and will be keen to come out with all guns firing. Emotions will be high for the Lakers with the tragic loss of their President a few weeks ago; the Club will be looking for a first up win.
Jeparit Rainbow has recruited well this season and with Ash Clugston to lead them on the field, and the return of Ben Zanker to the forward line and Peter Weir returning from South Australia.
Beulah showed last week that they have a lot of power in their forward line with Jarred Combe and Jake Percy kicking goals and with Scott Smith, their coach, leading from the front the Blues will be hard to stop.
This should be a good hard game but Beulah’s home ground advantage and a game under their belt should see them win.
Hopetoun make the trip to Underbool to do battle with Walpeup Underbool. Both these sides lost last week but Hopetoun should gain the services of some of their players who were unavailable last week because of a wedding. Hopetoun’s Simon Cook should make a difference and with Devon Mill, they will provide some more height in the side which will assist the Burdett brothers.
Walpeup Underbool will be without Kane Munro, who damaged an ankle in last weeks’ game. The Roo’s players will be better for their run last week with a number of the new players finding their way over the coming weeks. Northern Territory recruit Nathan Jones-Cubillo showed he had something to offer and with Dean Slorach and Simon Markham the side should settle well.
The Roos are always hard to beat at home so expect them to win.
Ouyen United will travel to Woomleang Lascelles and Ouyen United won well last week against Walpeup Underbool while Woomelang Lascelles played a good first term against Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers before they went missing.
Ouyen United should be strong with players still returning to the side. Glenn Joyce fitted into the side well last week while Sonny Lindsey and Ash Connick were well held but the Demons still had winners all over the ground.
Last week Woomelang Lascelles’ Tony Mudge, Anthony Foott and Lee Clayton gave the Cats good support but there were still looking for a big man who could open the game up. The Cats are on the improve but Ouyen United should come away with the points in this game.
