The footy’s back and the Southern Football League has
planned a blockbuster opener as modern day rivals Dingley and Springvale
Districts will fight it out under lights on Friday 9th April
at Newcomen Rd. Both clubs have worked hard in the off season to
secure a number of new players and their first game will provide many clubs
with some insight into how these two dark horses may fare in the 2010
season.
A large crowd is expected to attend the season opener, with both
clubs working together to ensure a successful season opener for the
league. Local restaurant Khe-Sanh is again sponsoring the match, with
both clubs vying to get their name on the Khe Sanh Cup.
The SFL is working with both clubs to ensure the night is a
huge success for the SFL. Wayne Holdsworth, SFL CEO, commented “Community
Footy is alive and well and we’re hoping the rivalries these clubs have carried
through from previous years will showcase the league to all who attend. “
Both Dingley and Springvale Districts committees have met recently to organise
other events for the night, and ideas put forward include Auskick matches, a
VIP Marquee and fireworks after the presentation of the Khe Sanh Cup to the
winning team.
Dingley President Leigh Menzel is hoping his club will get
right behind the season opener. “We are looking for a strong showing in
2010 and see this first game as imperative to set a standard for our players
and supporters. I’m asking for as many Dingley supporters to get down to
Newcomen Rd on Friday 9th April to support the Dingoes and help us
bring home the silverware. All member card holders will be admitted for
free so it promises a great night’s entertainment while enjoying the last of
the warmer weather.”
