Wellington won the toss and chose to run with the wind, both sides tested each other early with their attacking and defensive skills. Five minutes into the game the #11 from Wellington broke the line and passed to #4 to score the first try. But Taranaki hit straight back with a long ball from #6 to the corner for #12 to score in the corner and tie the game.
In the 10th minute Wellington’s #5 put #6 into a great hole to score and four minutes later they were in again when #13 run a great angle to receive a well-timed pass from #14 to score before halftime.
Wellington extended their lead to 4-1 soon after the second half began thanks to some great work from #14 who set up for #12 to score. Another try followed in the 25th minute after #9 scooped and handed-off to #6. Wellington’s #14 then called the move ‘Helmet’ where a player sweeps around the back of a dumper and receives to score their sixth try. Trys then followed to #7, #12, #7, #10 and #3 before Taranaki got a consolation score, the final result being 11-2 in favour of Wellington.
