The game started at a furious pace with both teams trying to find their stride. An early scoring opportunity for Bay of Plenty was lost due to a forward pass.

BOP were quick to respond with a touchdown to number 13 Rick Northcroft off a long ball, Canterbury were unable to scramble defensively to cover the distance created.
Canterbury’s #15 responded with a touch down from a show pass off play from #4 Scott Grant.
Half time saw the score as 3 – 1 to Canterbury
Canterbury started the 2nd half with a quick try to #9 off a show pass play from #4 Scott Grant.
BOP responded with a touchdown to #10, the referee call of touchdown met with a loud voiced appeal from Canterbury of “player touched prior to ball grounded”.
With a score line of 4-2 with 7 minutes to play Canterbury continued to play at pace, with #8 going in for touchdown number 5 through the Bay defence breakdown.
Canterbury had the final say with the final touchdown of the game to #13. The game result saw Canterbury win 6-2 in a good display of well organised play at pace.
