Upon the nomination of former GVFL Chairman and now Shepparton Swans delegate, Alan SUTHERLAND, Mr Peter WHITE was unanimously selected to be the Senior Coach of our Interleague team who take on the Ovens and Murray Football League in May. This game will probably be played at Lavington, probably on Saturday 22nd May and possibly starting at 5pm. We at the GVFL are still awaiting confirmation from the O & M for final details. One thing you can take as a fact is that the game will certainly be played on that week-end after our Round 6 games. At the Delegate's meeting there was a real sense of excitement with all of us really anxious to get up and running on the Easter long week-end. The meeting was informed that Shepparton Swans Coach Perry MEKA has informed that all of the Swans recruits have announced that they will be available to represent the League if selected. This is brilliant news taking into account the quality of recruits who have signed plus our talented kids who will be coming up from the Under 18's. This game, let alone the home and away games, is something we can really look forward to. Peter and Mario will be contacting GVFL personell to appoint their assistants and get stuck into things. At this early stage there has been a suggestion that if we have a number of Melbourne based players that our boys may train at Seymour. Early days yet but if the players can play with the same passion and desire as Macca and Keith and Fitzy and Freddo and Trevor and Mick and Nobby and Rob have for this clash then we should do really well.
Peter WHITE has a very impressive record as a player and Senior Coach. Being a Kyabram lad Peter's coaching kicked off in season 1983 as Coach of the Bomber's Reserves and since this time (1983) Peter has been involved in a Coaching role continually. This is Peter's 28th year on the trot where he has been a Coach. After 145 games with Kyabram including the 1979 Reserves Premiership where Peter was the Captain, he moved out to Merrigum in the Kyabram District League as the Assistant Coach in 1984 & 1985 and then the Captain/Coach in 1986, '87 and 1988 with back to back flags in 1986 and 1987 - 1987 was a big year where Peter won the McNamara Medal in being adjudged the best & fairest player in the comp. and also won Merrigum's B & F. In 1989 and 1990 he was the Captain Coach of Undera and then in season 1991 was Captain Coach of Stanhope. Back to Merrigum as an Assistant Coach in 1992 and then Senior Coach in 1993. With this excellent record in the KDFL and living in Kyabram's back yard Peter was then appointed Senior Coach of the Bombers in 1996 after two years as a Skills and Assistant Coach with champion goal-kicker Chris STUHLDEREIER at the helm. 1996 was a magnificent on field year for Kyabram where the Bombers were senior Premiers by defeating Tatura 18.13 (121) to the Bulldogs 10.10 (70). Peter held this position as Senior Coach of Kyabram to the end of the 2001 season. In season 2002 Peter had a little bit of a break when he did not have a direct involvement with a Club but was an Assistant Coach with the GVFL Interleague side, coached by Simon EISHOLD - in that year with the knock-out format we defeated the Murray F.L. 17.10 (112) to 11.6 (72) up at Barooga and then lost to the Mornington Nepean Penninsula League who then went on to win the title by defeating the Geelong Football League. In that loss to the Mornington team at Deakin Reserve, is that the day Simon GOOSEY went silly and kicked about 15 goals? No, he only kicked 5 - the score was MPNFL 16.11 (107) to the GVFL 15.6 (96). The match-winner for the visitors was the man power house Guy STRINGER - remember him?
Season 2003 saw Peter as Senior Coach of Tongala where he held that position for 3 seasons. Poor old Tonnie was really hit by the drought and recession and struggled with numbers before being admitted into the Murray Football League. Peter then went to Mooroopna for season 2006 where he was Assistant Coach to Derek HALL where his former Kyabram Premiership player in Brad CAMPBELL was playing and is now coaching. In 2007 and 2008 Peter was the senior Coach with the Shepparton Swans and held that position to the end of Round 7 in 2009. 2007 was so close but then again so far as the Seymour Lions were at their strongest having won the 2005 and 2006 flags and were red-hot favourites to win the hat-trick. Final score was Seymour 18.9 (117) to the Swans 13.12 (90). Amid plenty of publicity after Round 7 of 2009, Peter kept very much up-beat and continued his involvement with the G.V.F.L. Peter is at present employed by Tatura Milk Industries and has been with Tat Milk as a Despatch Co-ordinator for the last 5 years. Prior to that Peter had 20 years at the S.P.C. as a Packaging Planner and National Distribution Supervisor. In total Peter played 337 games and has either been the Coach, Assistant Coach or the Reserrves coach for a total of 506 games. 1990 was a special year for Peter when he was the Captain/Coach of the Kyabram District F.L. when they won the title in Interleague footy. Other significant honours have been bestowed upon Peter in 1996 when he was awarded the Shire of Campaspe "Sports Person of the Year" and in that same year was recognised for his Achievement in Sport by the Australia Day Council and was also awarded the Kyabram Rotary Club International Sportsperson of the Year. In 1998 Peter was awarded the G.V.F.L. Division One "Coach of the Year" award and then in 2007 he was awarded the highly prestigious Goulburn Murray Football Coaches Association Senior Coach of the Year and also at the Morrison Medal night for season 2007 was awarded the GVFL Media Coach of the Year Award.
Peter is a totally thorough Coach with very committed principles with his style, the training, the role of an assistant, video, statistics and forward scouts. You can rest assured that Peter will do everything in his power to ensure we defeat our opponents. We have a fantastic Interleague representative record in that we have never been demoted from Division 1 since records have been kept since 1978. With this new format with a ladder being created for the Major Leagues in the V.C.F.L., we have been allocated second possie on the ladder with the O & M up on top because of the one point victory they had over us last time we played. You can also rest assured that the Macca and Keith and the Board of the Goulburn Valley Football League will do everything we can for us to be up the top of the ladder. Go GV!
Information regarrding Mario De SANTA ANA will be posted in the next few days as he too is very exited about being re-appointed our Under 18's Coach. Cooch the Coach will be forwarding his history soon.
