On Saturday 6th March at Eureka Stadium (Northern Oval), there will be an Under 17 Representative Football Team made up of 11 Lexton Plains FL players and 11 Maryborough Castlemaine FL players that will play against an Under 17 Central Highlands Football League Team, in a curtain raiser game to the AFL NAB Challenge Match.
It will be a great opportunity for the kids that do represent our combined team as I’m sure there will be many spectators watching on and for these kids to play on a venue as good as Eureka Stadium, it may be something they’ll remember for a long time.
The two coaches for the team will be Andrew Neale & Brian Kelly. Both these guys have had experience in coaching junior players in their respective leagues in the past so I’m sure they will do a fantastic job.
The team was picked by the coaches along with some help from outside sources.
The 22 players that have been picked in the team are as follows:
1. Clayton Furness (Carisbrook)
2. Brendan Murdoch (Carisbrook)
3. Nick McKnight (Maldon)
4. Damian Gatti (Maldon)
5. Pat Ruggles (Newstead)
6. John Bastin (Newstead)
7. Will Short (M/Rovers)
8. Jayden Drake (M/Rovers)
9. Mitchell Etherton (Avoca)
10. Nicholas Barker (Avoca)
11. D Wittingslow (Talbot)
12. Bryce Karslake (Illabarook)
13. Ben Weir (Natte Bealiba)
14. Brayden Mills (Natte Bealiba)
15. Jacob Fratin (Ararat)
16. Josh Driscoll (Navarre)
17. Will Corbett (Skipton)
18. Chris Lodge (Skipton)
19. Michael Richardson (Carngham Linton) – Please note he has a cricket final this Sunday and will not be able to make it to training.
20. Chase Dummett (Carngham Linton)
21. Cody Kirby (Rokewood)
22. Andy Parkinson (Rokewood)
It is certainly a great effort by all these boys, and something they and their clubs should be very proud of. I’m sure the boys will represent their clubs and their league with great distinction.
There will be a training session which will be held at the Lexton Football Oval this Sunday commencing at 11:00am. If your club has any representatives in this team could you please contact the kids and let them know about training this Sunday. If they are unable to attend training for one reason or another, could you please let me know by C.O.B. on Friday. It is a requirement that all players attend the training session if they are wishing to play in the game.
Any questions, please let me know.
