REFEREE EDUCATION

At a meeting held in Auckland last November, there was a lot of discussion about refereeing generally and more especially referee education.

The EASTER TOURNAMENT has tackled your concerns head-on with a high quality training programme for REFEREES and REFEREE EDUCATORS taking place at the tournament. Now each Association needs to do something to support the programme by encouraging their refereeing community to attend the Easter programme.

 1. REFEREE EDUCATORS & EVALUATORS

An evaluators development programme to provide training for those wanting to

·       Be appointed to junior premierships and/or national championships

·       Increase their confidence and knowledge in teaching domestic referee coaches

·       Gain formal accreditation as a referees coach

John Martin from Australia, in conjunction with our own Ken Coulson as FIBA-appointed Oceania referee educators will be at the Easter Tournament to encouage referee educators to undertake formal training in that role

·       Be appointed to junior premierships and/or national championships

·       Increase their confidence and knowledge in teaching domestic referee coaches

·       Gain formal accreditation as a referees coach

Programme

Easter Friday 10.00am-4.00pm (Rotorua Events Centre)

Saturday 10.00am-4.00pm (Rotorua Events Centre)

Easter Sunday 10.00am-4.00pm Referees Training day. NBL game

Easter Monday 10.00am. Practical work and formal work towards qualification

Candidates for this referees development course will need to have at least refereed at the senior level, or been a referee coach recognised by BBNZ.

We have not budgeted for an income from this development activity, though participants will need to get to Rotorua, and either stay independently or with the referee accommodation group (contact Sue Pene at rotoruabball@xtra.co.nz )

2. REFEREE EDUCATION

The Easter tournament organisers have also aranged for ALAN GARROWAY to support Ken Coulson with our REFEREE EDUCATION programme for officials working at the tournament.

Alan Garroway is one of Australia's three Referee Technical Commissioners; a FIBA badge-holder with a long career in referee education programmes.

Alan will atend the tournament with 3-4 young officlals from Victoria; provide training and education for officials through the Easter tournament; and take part in the scheduled Referees development activities set down for Easter Sunday
