BASKETBALLERS ON THE MOVE.

Senior and Junior Lakers basketballers are on the move this weekend.

The Lakers Men’s and Women’s travel to Adelaide to play in the SA Country Basketball Senior Championships while the Junior Lakers Under 16 Boys and Girls journey to Hamilton for their annual Junior Tournament.

The Lakers Men will be defending the A Grade title and the Women looking to go one better after finishing runner-up to Port Augusta in the 2009 A grade competition.

The A Grade Men’s competition involves eight teams placed in two pools of four, cross over quarter and semi-finals followed by the grand final. The Lakers meet Riverland in their opening game on Saturday at 1 pm followed by Port Augusta and Strathalbyn to complete the Pool B games. On Sunday there will be four cross over quarter finals, two semi-finals and then the Grand Final at 3p.m.

Eastern Hills (two teams), Murray Bridge and Port Pirie comprise Pool A.

The Lakers Women face a tough six team draw. Reigning premier Port Augusta head the list. Eastern Hills and Port Pirie will also be strong contenders along with Broken Hill and Riverland. Their first opponent is Eastern Hills at 11 am on Saturday morning, then Broken Hill and Port Pirie. On Sunday the Lakers meet Port Augusta and Riverland as they strive for a spot in the final at 2p.m.

Presentations to winning teams and Most Valuable players will be made after the Men’s Final.   

The Lakers Under 16 Girls and Boys have tough assignments at the high standard Hamilton Junior Tournament over the weekend. The Lakers’ Girls meet new opponents Maryborough and Colac on Saturday before arch rival Warrnambool.

Sunday they face a big test in taking on Portland and then Millicent. The Grand Final will be played between the top two teams at 3.30p.m.

The Lakers Boys also face a tough six team competition. On Saturday they play Portland, Warrnambool and Hamilton. They round off the regulation games on Sunday morning up against Ararat and Colac. The Grand Final will also be played at 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon.
