The Australian Football League (AFL) recently announced the inclusion of the Junior World XVIII team to compete in the 2010 NAB AFL Under 16 Championships. The introduction of the World XVIII provides an innovative and targeted approach to the development of junior football around the world.
The opportunity exists for 3-5 junior Canadian players to be
selected for the squad to travel to Australia and play matches against
Division Two sides (NSW/ACT, the Northern Territory, Queensland and
Tasmania) in the 2010 championships.
The players, who will be aged up to 18 owing to their inexperience compared to
Australian-born players, will also take part in a five-day high
performance camp to hasten their development while in the country.
AFL Canada fully supports the World XVIII initiative and will be
looking to put forward some of Canada's best young talent to compete in
2010.
