At the 2009 Western Region Football League Annual General Meeting there were some significant changes to the League Executive and its Administration.
President Diana Taylor, Vice president Stephen Myall and CEO John Batty all stepped down from their positions.
The Clubs of the WRFL ratified the appointment of Bill Baarini (pictured) as President and John O’Callaghan as Vice President and Barry Lovell and Gina Smith as new members of the Executive along with Terry McGarity and Michael Psalia. Under the rules of the WRFL Robert McGhie was also co-ted to the board.

New President Bill Baarini has been involved with the WRFL since he played in the Under 13’s and has a deep passion for the competition. He captained a winning inter-league team for the WRFL and won a League Best and Fairest Award as well as an Under 16 Rookie of the year award before going to the Western Jets. Bill then a stint at the Essendon Football Club where he played reserves.
“I love footy and I look forward to the challenges ahead of me in this role. I know the people, the clubs and what’s needed. We all want to build the WRFL into the best suburban footy comp in Melbourne. The new board has the get up and go to make that happen and we will. We have some very important issues to deal with and we will do that in the best interests of the entire competition and community .”
