The 2009 Board of Directors for the G.V.F.L. were all re-elected as there were no challenges and each member declared they are very keen to continue on. Fortunately for all, Mr Keith WELLMAN has agreed to fulfill the role of General Manger for another season which was whole heartedly endorsed by all clubs. Perhaps the only change going into the new year will be the loss of our office girl, Administration Assistant Alana BALDI who is heading over to Bendigo to study and train to become a qualified personal fitness trainer. Thanks to Alana for all the terrific work she has done for the League - we wish her well with her new venture. The present Board of Management is :- Ian McDONALD as Chairman, Ian FIZSIMMONS (Deputy Chairman) with Mick WILLIAMS, Freddo McMAHON, Trevor POLLARD, Rob BELL and Norm GILLESPIE. The Board are having their first meeting this Wednesday evening to ratify the positions and prepare for the new year.
At the A.G.M., two new Presidents were in attendence and were welcomed. Tony HANSEN has been re-appointed as the President of Kyabram, a position he has previously held with great success for the three years 1995, 1996 and 1997 with the highlight no doubt being the Bombers Premiership under Senior Coach Peter WHITE in 1996. Tony has been back in the swing over the last few years acting as Ky's Delegate to the League. Ray DOBSON will keep the family tradition well and truly alive at Shepparton United. His Dad Travis was President of the Demons in terms of office, 1952 and 1953, 1957 and again in 1964, '65 and 1966. Ray's youngest brother Geoff was President in 1981, '82 and 1983 and is now the Mayor of the City of Greater Shepparton. Ray's other brother, the elder of the DOBSON boys, Noel, was President of Mooroopna when the Cats won their last Senior flags in 1985 and 1986 against Shepparton United. Ray was a dashing utility in United's 1962 Premiership and both Dobbo at United and Tony HANSEN at Ky. bring plenty of buisness and footy savvy to their clubs and the League. Welcome fella's!
With the League now in a very firm financial position, thanks mainly to former Chairman John COGHLAN, Ian McDONALD and Keith WELLMAN with significant assistance from the Audit Committee and Finalancial Advisor Michelle ADAMS, we can go into the future with great confidence and with excitement. We are drawn to play our traditional rivals, the Ovens and Murray somewhere in their region sometime over the 22nd/23rd May week-end after Round 6. The talk around the traps certainly makes one think that the standard of the League is going to improve if all the recruits spoken to (and spoken of) are able to run around with us. Adem YZE from Melbourne to the Swans! United have signed three big guns from Brisbane, Mooroopna may have some more Heidelberg premiership players and if the talk up on the River Murray about Echuca is right the Murray Bombers should be big improvers with some players coming from the S.A.N.F.L. over in Adelaide. Wow! Come on Two Thousand and Ten! If things go according to plan our season's opener may well be under the brilliant lights at Deakin Reserve on Good Friday 2nd April when the Shepparton Bears take on cross town rivals, the Shepparton Swans. On the Saturday (3rd April) Mansfield will unfurl their Premiership flag at home when they take on Shepp United, Echuca play Seymour, Mooroopna host Euroa and we may have two Saturday night games with Kyabram taking on Rochy and Benalla playing Tatura.
Go G.V. !
