Hot on the heels of the highly successful 2009 Illawarra Youth Girls Competition, the region today launched plans for a Women's team.
The as yet unnamed team is seeking entry into the Sydney Women's AFL Competition from 2010.
The team will play out of Wollongong Uni in conjunction with their South Coast AFL clubmates, the Uni Bulldogs.
Women's AFL is open to any player over 15 although it's expected that many of our girls graduating from the Youth Girls comp will join the team at 19 and over.
There is no experience required and you'd simply like to give it a go you will be most welcome.

Swans get uni's team for Sydney women's AFL off to flying start by Chris Roots
SYDNEY Swans Lewis Roberts-Thomson, Mike Pyke and new recruit Trent Dennis-Lane finished their two days in Wollongong by helping to launch the University of Wollongong team to play in the Sydney women's AFL competition in 2010.
After several schools visits during the community camp, the Swans were front and centre for the announcement of the university's (UOW) women's team, which will have a seniors and youth teams. "It's great to see new teams starting up down here and it's a real positive that a girls team will play from down here in the Sydney competition," Roberts-Thomson said.
"It just shows the support the game has in Wollongong, which we have seen while we have been down here." Lee Murray will coach the UOW women's team, which will be the representative team from the South Coast. "It's take a lot of time and effort to organise but it gives the girls somewhere to go to play football after they are 16 (years-old)," Murray said.
"Up until now if they wanted to play AFL after the youth levels, girls had to go to Sydney.
"This team will give them the opportunity to play and train on the South Coast. We are expecting to have players from Nowra and the Shoalhaven playing in the team."
