The Ballarat FL is pleased to advise that Liam Brady is joining the Ballarat FNL as the new Operations Manager who will be managing the day to day administration and operation of the Lexton Plans FL&NA and the Maryborough Castlemaine District FNL.
Liam has been appointed on a 12month fixed term contract, and is filling the position vacated by Toby Boyle who has been granted 12 months leave of absence to travel in the UK where he has applied for a position with the AFL UK and we wish him all the very best in his travels. Toby’s last day with the Ballarat FNL will be on Friday 15th January 2010 and he is expected to return in January 2011. Should the Ballarat FNL responsibilities continue to grow as a regional football & netball “Hub” (or should Toby elect to remain in the UK) it is expected that Liam will be offered a full time permanent position at the Ballarat FNL at the completion of his fixed term contract.
Liam is a “Ballarat boy” having grown up in Ballarat and attended St. Patrick’s College and played junior football with the East Ballarat Junior Football Club and senior football with the Gordon Football Club. After completing Year 12, Liam undertook an AFL Traineeship in 2003 with the Richmond Football Club, where he worked in the football department under the guidance of Greg Miller and Greg Hutchison. After finishing the AFL Traineeship at Richmond FC, Liam spent 2 years at University and in 2005 travelled to the UK to play a season of cricket.
In February 2007 Liam moved to Darwin where he commenced work for the AFL Northern Territory as a Junior Development Officer. In late 2007 Liam was promoted to a Regional Development Officer position based in Darwin and in late 2008 he was again promoted, this time to a Regional Development Manager position, based in Alice Springs.
Some of Liam’s roles and responsibilities at AFL NT during his 3 years have been;
- Running the AFL Junior competition’s and Auskick programs in Darwin, Tennant Creek and Alice Springs.
- Coordinating the high school and primary school football competitions in Darwin.
- Setting up structured junior football competitions & programs on the Tiwi Islands and Groote Eylandt.
- Established the first Senior Football Competition on Groote Eylandt which is in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
- Worked closely with the Barkly Football League in undertaking the day to day operations of the Senior League and Junior Competitions in the Barkly Region.
- Considerable involvement with the NT Thunder Under 16 & Under 18 Talent programs and have travelled away with the Under 18 team to the last three National Championships.
Liam will commence with the Ballarat FNL on Tuesday 24th November 2009 and will be based at Saxon House, and is very much looking forward to returning to Ballarat and joining the team at the Ballarat Football & Netball League.
Liam said “Having lived in Ballarat most of my life, I am excited to get the opportunity to come back and work in football management and promotion in the Ballarat and outlining regions. Over the last 3 years while I have been based in the Northern Territory working for AFL NT, I have gained an enormous amount of experience working under an excellent administrator in Tony Frawley, and I look forward to bringing these skills to the Ballarat region and working closely with two quality administrators in Rod Ward and Aaron Nunn”.
Liam was selected after an extensive application & interview process, that featured some high level candidates. The selection panel comprised BFL Football Netball Operations Manager Aaron Nunn, BFL Chairman Robert Allan and CEO Rod Ward.
I am sure Liam will prove himself as a valuable and popular addition to league ranks, and on behalf of all at the RegionalOne Ballarat FNL, we do welcome Liam on board, and it goes without saying that I am sure you will all make Liam welcome when you come across him.
