Goulburn Valley Football League - Grand Finals this Sunday at Deakin Reserve, Skene Street, Shepparton with the action to commence at 9:15am. The gates will be opened and manned from 7:30am. The Master of Ceremonies for the day will be Win TV Sports Presenter Wes CUSWORTH aided of course by the Chairman of the GVFL Mr Ian McDONALD and the General Manager of the GVFL Mr Keith WELLMAN and assistant Alana BALDI. The itinery is as follows :-
9:15am --- Commencement of the 3rds football Grand Final between Kyabram and Echuca - also the commencement of the Netball 17 & Unders Grand Final between the Shepparton Swans and the Shepparton Bears.
At 10:20am Presentations will be made to the netball Premiers and Runners-up.
At 10:45am the B Reserve netball grand final between Shepparton United and the Shepparton Bears should commence. By 11:15am the Under 18's football should be decided where the presentations will be made of the Bob DAWSON Premiership Cup, the Premiership medallions, the Freddo McMAHON Best on Ground Medal and the Gary LYON Best Player of the Finals medallion.
11:35am the Reserves Grand Final between Seymour and Tatura should commence.
11:50am or thereabouts the B Reserve medallions should be presented to the winners.
At 12:15pm the B Grade netball Grand Final should commence between Shepparton United and the Shepparton Swans and should conclude
at 1:50pm when the Presentations are conducted. At about the same time (1:45pm or thereabouts) the Reserves Grand Final should be completed and then the Reserves Presentations of the Bill ENDERS Premiership Cup, the Premiership medallions, the Peter RYAN Best on Ground and the Max MURLEY medal for the Best Player in the Finals will be presented out on the oval.
At 2pm we hope to have the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation parachutists land on Deakin Reserve. Chairman of the GVFL Ian McDONALD has pledged to jump, so too has former Shepparton Premiership player Matt HANLON and perhaps the highlight will be former Shepparton Policeman 72 year old Mr Frank EYRE who will deliver the match ball to the Umpires for the Senior game. Macca, Hanno and Frank will be jumping in tandem with Victoria Police Sky Diving club members who are all experienced jumpers and teachers. Former Shepparton Police member and keen parachutist Mr Neill HOBBS in conjunction with Shepparton Police Sergeant Peter LAW have arranged for this spectactular to occur and encourage people to support the Blue Ribbon Foundation who will also have a merchandise van in a prominent location at Deakin. Fingers crossed, Frank will get the Sherrin to the umpiries and then at about
2:10pm Kyabram will run out onto Deakin Reserve from the Shepparton United clubrooms in readiness to take on Mansfield who have been allocated the Shepparton Football Club's clubrooms under the Grand Stand.
At 2:11pm Mansfield should enter the ground and then both teams with the umpiries and officials, Macca, Frankie EYRE and Hanno should line-up for the playing of the National Anthem at
2:15pm. Then the tossing of the Barry CONNOLLY coin to decided who kicks which way and then at
2:25pm the Senior footy game commences.
At 2:45pm the A Grade netball Grand Final should commence between Shepparton United and Echuca which is scheduled to conclude at about
3:45pm where all the Presentations will be made.
3:30pm should be half time of the Seniors - at about
5pm the Senior Premiership should be decided between the Bombers and the Eagles when the presentations will commence from the ground up onto the apron of the Grand Stand. The HASTIE Perpetual cup, the Premiership medallions, the Wilf COX and VCFL medals for the player voted as best man on the ground will be presented and also the Barry CONNOLLY medal for the best player in the Senior finals series.
A huge day - the Kyabram Under 18's and Seniors have been allocated the Shepparton United rooms and are to wear black shorts. The Seymour Reserves are also using the Shepparton United rooms and are to wear their blue shorts. Echuca 3rds, Tatura Reserves and Mansfield Seniors are to use the Shepparton Football Club rooms underneath the Grand stand and each are to wear white shorts.
Time Keepers for the Under 18 3rds game are Graeme "Darky" TREVASKIS from Tatura with Norm BARRETT from Mooroopna. Jock FERGUSON from Rochester with Trevor REAPER from Benalla are the Reserves Time Keepers. For the Senior game, Graham ROSENDALE from Echuca will be a Time Keeper with John PEARSON from Euroa. Norm GILLESPIE from the G.V.F.L. will be the Interchange Steward for each game and co-ordinate the escorting of the Umpires from the ground.
