Preliminary Finals results from Deakin Reserve, Shepparton in magnificent conditions on Sunday 20th September 2009. In the Senior football competition Mansfield advance to the Grand Final with an emphatic victory over Rochester who went into the game without Guy CAMPBELL and Dylan CUTTRISS but then again Mansfield went in without Simon HART who kicked 7 goals against them two weeks previous at the same venue. The Tigers started very well with the aid of a 3/4 goal wind down to the Eastern end having 5.1 on the board at 1/4 time to Mansfield's 1.3. Mansfield then kicked 5 goals 8 with the wind whereas Rochy just managed one solitary goal but to be down by just 10 points at 1/2 time. Into the wind in the 3rd Q Mansfield kicked 3 goals 3 to Rochy's 1.3 so by 3/4 time the Eagles were up by 22 points but then had the wind at their backs in the last quarter. The Eagles were hot to trot, the Tigers were wounded and again had too many good players down in form. Mansfield romped home kicking 5 goals 8 to the Tigers one miserable point. The final score was :- Mansfield 14.22 (106) to Rochester 7.5 (47). This shows that from 1/4 time on, Mansfield kicked 13 goals 19 behinds to Rochy's 2 goals 4 behinds so really that is a spanking. Again, Mansfield barely had a passenger with Brett MAHONEY and Tim DETRIOU kicking 3 goals each while Jamie SHEAHAN, David MENSCH and Matt STORER each kicked 2. Mattie STORER actually lined up at centre half back on Elliott BOWEN and did very well to be named the Eagles 2nd best player behind Nick GIESCHEN who really was excellent all game. Mitch WAREHAM, Craig FLINT, Brett MAHONEY and Jame SHEAHAN were named Mansfield's best 6 but you could argue that all they way home to Mansfield from Shepparton. Ben ANDERSON and Ash WATSON kicked 2 goals each out of Rochy's 7. Rochy's Sam's, WILLIAMS, O'BRIEN and BRENNAN were the only players named as their best. Like mentioned above, Rochester had too many good players who had dirty days. In the Reserves, Tatura outlasted Shepparton to take on Seymour in the Granny next week. The Bulldogs won 12.7 (79) to Shepparton 9.9 (63). Adam MacGIBBON and Antonio BORELLI kicked 3 apeice for the Bulldogs and their better players were listed as John DAVISON, Josh GLEDHILL, Adam MacGIBBON, Luke McPHILLAMY, Jonathon BARNETT and Josh STAMMERS. Daniel THORSEN for the Bears kicked 4 goals, the evergreen Paul NEWMAN kicked 2. Lloyd HARRIETT, Chris BELL, Brad HOLLAND, Clint DUDGEON. Daniel THORSEN and Paul GARNER were named as Shepparton best 6.
In the Under 18's we have a repeat of last year's 3rds Grand Final with Echuca defeating Rochester to take on Kyabram. The Murray Bombers will be aiming for back to back flags. Echuca defeated Rochy 12.7 (79) to 8.9 (57). The Murray Bombers were down by 7 points at 3/4 time but had the wind at their back to kick 6 goals 4 to Rochy's 1 goal 5 in the final quarter. The Sam's were pretty good at Deakin on Preli. final day with Sam McNEILL kicking 4 for Echuca, Jake MILLS 3 and Matthew COSTELLO 2 who was also named Echuca's best player along with Tom MERRETT, Kyle MANLEY, Philip HUBBARD, Bart PHILLIPS and Ben REID. Sam DRISCOLL kicked 2 for the Tigers as did Shannon COFFEY. The Tigers better players were listed as Timothy LETCHER, Nathan OOGJES, Sam DRISCOLL, the Pattison Medalist Scott OAKLEY, Nathan MARRON and Justin WILLIAMS.
The netball results are as follows :- A Grade, Echuca 47 defeated Shepparton 42. B Grade, the Shepparton Swans defeated Shepparton 59 to 26, Susan HUFFER nee WELLMAN has guided her Shepparton B Reserve team into the Grand Final with a 15 goal win over Rochester, the final score being Shepparton 48 to Rochester 33 and in the 17 & Unders the Shepparton Swans scored 47 goals to defeat Tatura 44.
Grand Finals - Deakin Reserve, Shepparton - Sunday 27th September 2009 - the Under 18 football game to start at 9:30am.
3rds :- Kyabram v Echuca Reserves :- Seymour v Tatura Seniors :- Kyabram v Mansfield
Netball :- 17 & Unders Shepparton v Shepparton Swans B Reserve Shepparton United v Shepparton B Grade Shepparton United v the Shepparton Swans and in A Grade Shepparton United v Echuca. This reads that Shepp United have 3 teams in, Shepparton have 2 as do the Shepparton Swans so that leaves Echuca the only non Shepparton team fighting for a flag - that would make a person think there will tremendous support for the Murray Bombers girls in the A Grade final. Can the Demons B Reserve and A Grade teams be Premiers and Champions? Find out - Deakin Reserve, Shepparton, Sunday 27th September 2009!
