The Tigers really bounced back against the Tatura Bulldogs after their loss to Mansfield in the Qualifying Final - beware the wounded Tiger! Rochester defeated Tatura 20.14 (134) to 8.12 (60) - a 74 point victory after losing the previous week to Mansfield by 14 points. It was like the Tigers of Old, they were strong and they were bold and had Kahl OLIVER on song to pop through 8 majors in a best on ground performance. The Tigers were up by 11 goals 4 at 1/2 time, leading 13.7 to 2 goals 3. The Bullies responded in the 2nd half but could not make up the big difference. Chris RYAN, Ben COSGRIFF and Paul KIRBY were the better players for Tatura who all in all, really have had a pretty good year considering where they have come from and the Tatura Reserves are in the Prelim. too. Well done to the Bulldogs, they are certainly on the way up. On Sunday at Mooroopna the Kyabram Bombers advanced to the Grand Final with a 51 point win over Mansfield who were so good the week before against Rochy. The Final score was :- Kyabram 21.12 (138) to Mansfield 12.15 (87) with Ky. winning the game in the 2nd quarter when they kicked 9 goals 4 to Mansfield's 2 solitary points. The marking of Paul NEWMAN was nothing short of exceptional, he would nearly have to have the best set of hands in the business. Paul slotted 8 and had terrific support from youngster Brad MANGAN who kicked 5 upon his return from the Murray Bushrangers. Chris ATKINS and Wade DEMASI each kicked 3. Matt DELEDIO was named the Bombers best player in a very even performance by the 21 players. David MENSCH kicked 4 for the Eagles with Dan ROY, Bernie JONES and Adam BOSHEVSKI kicking two apeice. The dimutive Chris GALLAGHER was named Mansfield's best along with ruckman JONES, the "Rooster" at centre half back in Tim Van Der KLOOSTER, Jamie SHEAHAN and Nick GIESCHEN.
In the Reserves First Semi Final at Euroa on the Saturday, Shepparton defeated Rochester 13.12 (90) to 9.11 (65) to advance to the Prelim. Final v Seymour. In the Second Semi at Mooroopna on Sunday, Seymour defeated Tatura 17.16 (118) to 7.9 (51). The Lions advance to the Grand Final and Tat. have another chance in the Prelim. against Shepparton. In the Under 18's, the Shepparton Swans have been bundled out when Echuca won the 1st Semi 16.5 (101) to 14.8 (92) - only 9 points! Echuca take on Rochester in the Prelim. because in the 2nd Semi Kyabram defeated Rochester 15.6 (96) to 12.11 (83). So in the Grand Final we have Kyabram in the Seniors, Seymour in the Reserves and Kyabram in the Under 18's. The Preliminary Finals this Sunday at Deakin Reserve promise to be real beauties with no beg pardons.
In the Seniors, your tipster selects Rochester to reverse the Qualifying Final result that was also played at Deakin Reserve. All of the Mansfield players fired on that day, Rochy hardly had a winner and copped a few hard hurting knocks and had too many good players who had dirty days. Rochester will be hell bent on going back to back and will be champing at the bit to have another crack at Ky. because of the way they disposed of Ky. only a few weeks ago. The Tigers will have to be in front all day to win the game - the Tigers will also have to pay huge respect to Simon HART who ripped them apart at Deakin a fortnight ago. This will be a great game if both teams go at it 100%. Both teams have excellent big men, excellent midfielders and top quality smaller men. The Tigers are the tip but not with a huge amount of confidence. I would'nt be surprised if Mansfield advance to the Grand Final because they were so impressive against Rochy in the Qualifying Final but no so good last week when Ky. smacked them by a bit over 8 goals.
In the Reserves, your tipster selects the Tatura Bulldogs to defeat the Shepparton Bears but not by much. Perhaps the experienced Shepparton players could get them over the line? Toss of the coin - up she goes, down she comes ------ its, ----- Bulldogs! In the Under 18's which starts at 10am, your tipster selects Rochester to defeat the Murray Bombers from Echuca. It has been said during the second half of the year that the Rochy Thirds are the best Under 18 team in the GV. Rochy. should be on a high with the Morrison Medalist Scott OAKLEY raring to display his wares and have his team mates support him in their quest. But, make no mistake with the Echuca kids, they had terrific wins over Shepparton in the Elimination Final and were impressive in their 9 point win over the Shepp Swans last week. Both Rochester and Echuca will be going hell for leather to get into the Grand Final against Ky. Another great game - come on Sunday!
