Congratulations to Brian DURBRIDGE from the Shepparton Swans who won the Morrison Medal for the best and fairest player in the Senior competition for the Goulburn Valley Football League for season 2009. Brian won the medal having polled votes in 9 games out of 18 - he polled 4 x best on's, 2 x second best on's and 3 x 3rd best on's to rack up the 19 votes, just one vote clear of equal runners-up Brendan LIDDELL from Seymour and Paul KIRBY from Tatura. Equal 4th on 16 votes were Guy CAMPBELL and Ben DEUSCHER from Rochester. Brian was spotted and obviously impressed Peter WHITE who was coaching the Swans in 2008 when we held the Australian Country Football Championships at Deakin Reserve and at Mooroopna. Brian, being from Mount Gambier was representing the S.A. Country Team and was a stand-out. So much so that WHITEY hassled him enough to get him to the Swans where he has really settled in very well and also became the Coach of a Shepparton based Under 16 team. Good news for the Goulburn Valley Football League and for the Swans is that Brian has declared he is staying with the Swans and wants to continue with Junior Development. Well Done Brian - a terrific achievement!
What an absoulte outstanding performance by the Wellman Family A Grade Netball medalist for season 2009! Keisha GUILMARTIN from Shepparton United was thrilled to be decalred winner at the dinner. Keisha dominated through out the year in her Goal Keeper role with the undefeated Demon's A Grade side, so much so that she polled 13 x best on court votes - that is 13 x 3 votes out of 18 games - an absoulte marvellous performance. Keisha polled a total of 43 votes to be a run away winner from runner-up Steph O'NIAL from Kyabram who polled 22 votes with Seymour's Kallyn GENT sharing 3rd position with Benalla girls Kellie KEEN and Sarah HILL who all polled 21 votes. Any other year, 22 votes would have nearly won the medal. Congratulations girls.
Terrence TUOHEY from the Shepparton club has won back to back Abikhair medals being voted by the umpires as the best and fairest player in the Reserves competition. "Barge" was the captain of the Shepparton Bears senior Premiership side in 2000 and has been asked numerous times to play in the one's but it seems he is quite happy and very well received helping out the developing younger players. Well Done Terrence who polled 27 votes, 12 votes clear of the equal runners-up Luke McPHILLAMY from Tatura and Tim BUBB from Rochester who both polled 15 votes.
Rochester's tall athletic Scott OAKLEY has won the Pattison Medal for being the best player in the Under 18 competition. Congratulations Scott who polled 29 votes despite playing 4 games with the Tigers Seniors and a game or two with the Bendigo Pioneers in the T.A.C. competition during the year. Runner-up was Andrew CIAVARELLA from Kyabram who polled 22 votes with Scott's Rochester team-mates filling the 3rd and 4th top vote positions. Sam DRISCOLL polled 15 votes, Tim LETCHER polled 14. Well Done boys!
Seymour evergreen Ros RUTHERFORD won the Sandra COX B Grade medal in netball polling 27 votes, just a few votes clear of Tahlia PALMER from Shepparton United. Shepparton United's Erin LOGAN won the Gaye EATON medal for best and fairest player in the B Reserve competition polling 22 votes, two votes clear of Simone BRUTON from the Shepparton Swans. This is Erin's second League best and fairest medal. Congratulations Erin. In the 17 & Under's netball competition Ashleigh FEEHAN from Benalla has won the Carol RYAN Medal as best and fairest player for 2009 polling 30 votes, 4 votes clear from Tiaan FREER from the Shepparton Swans.
